Cupping Therapy

Have you ever wondered what cupping therapy is? And why it leaves those red marks afterwards? Cupping therapy is a great technique that has been around longer than you may think.

Cuping therapy dates back to 1550 BC when it was used by the Greeks as a way to remove foreign objects from the body. Since then it has adapted and become an integrated part of traditional Chinese medicine and is becoming mainstream in North America. You will see it on everyday people suffering from muscle stiffness, as well as the Olympic Athletes coming up in Febrary.

What it is

Cupping therapy utilizes negative pressure, rather than tissue compression, for results in a wide array of body work techniques. It is safe, comfortable and has great results.

Why is it effective

Cupping therapy creates suction and negative pressure, lifting the connective tissue and releasing rigid tissue while loosening adhesions. The cupping will pull stagnant blood and waste to skin level where it can easily be flushed out by the lymphatic and circulatory systems.

What are the marks

These marks are not bruises. They are metabolic waste, blood and other stagnant materials that have been freed from the underlying tissue and brough to the surface where they can be more easily flushed away. These marks can last anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks. These should not be tender.
