Your Summer Fit Kit
When summer comes around, our thoughts as Canadians turn to the great outdoors. This is the time we pursuit activities such as golf, running, walking, and gardening.
Keeping active will help you maintain a healthy weight, improve posture, flexibility, build strong bones and relieve stress. Recreational activities are a great way to enjoy their benefits while having fun. Whether it is picking up a garden rake, a golf club or out for a walk, it is important to get moving.
Keep your spine in mind as you continue through this fun filled summer. Here are some tips to keep your back healthy as you enjoy the great outdoors!
If you are hitting the links, pounding the pavement or pulling out weeds, make sure you warm up. Do gentle stretches to limber up your muscles before digging, walking or swinging the golf club.
USE PROPER TECHNIQUE
Make sure you learn the proper technique before going out for your activity right from the start. Poor technique is what will cause injuries to your joints and muscles.
INCREASE YOUR FLEXIBILITY
Maintaining good mobility for muscles and joints will contribute to preserving your abilities and preventing injuries. Restricted muscles and joints hamper your technique and lead to strains and sprains. Take the time too keep your body loose.
DRINK A LOT OF WATER
Drinking plenty of water before, during and after activity will keep you hydrated and full of energy. Always remember, once you feel thirsty, you are already dehydrated.
DON’T OVERDO THINGS
Avoid doing too much too fast. This will be a lot of us. We want to get as much done as quickly as possible and will pay for it later that day. Take your time, slowly increase your activity levels.
Taking 10-15 minutes to cool down after activity is just as important as warming up. This is the time to help flush out our systems of any harmful build up and speed up recovery.
TREAT YOUR INJURIES
If you have an injury after your summer activity, the sooner it is treated, the sooner you will get back to the fun. Letting these injuries linger can slow you down for a long period of time.
GET CHIROPRACTIC HELP
If these problems persist, consult with your chiropractor right away to help you have a speedy recovery!
